The owners of such works should be allowed to sell them to collectors abroad ?thus depriving the countrys population of a vital part of its cultural heritage

Great question. It always upsets me to see a great work of art leave its quothomequot.........I have often wondered if other people feel the same. I always cheer when I hear on the radio that a home nation gallery raised the cash to prevent a foreign collector getting their hands on it.brIts nice to see temporary foreign exhibitions travel round the world to give others a chance they wouldnt get especially poor people to see master pieces but strictly on a temporary basis.brObviously with some delicate works and sculpture this is impossible.brArt helps define a regions culture. If you take away significant works from say Rome, Amsterdam, Paris etc YOU are taking away the SOUL of the country.
